The Red Lion - 23 Crown Passage

The Red Lion, 23 Crown Passage, SW1 - Crown Passage is just off Pall Mall opposite St James's Palace. Tiny picturesque black timber-fronted pub that has been there for more than 400 years and has the second oldest beer licence in London. There is rumoured to be a tunnel from the beer cellar to St James's Palace which was used by Nell Gwynne to allow her discrete liaisons with King Charles II.

Be very careful coming out of this pub, if there's a stroppy policeman standing on the other side of the road DON'T pop over and ask where the next pub is he'll arrest you. (Won't he Graham) Well at least we managed to do Go To Jail, and we did Just Visiting as well!

Walk to end of Crown Passage, turn left along King Street, turn right up St James's Street, cross Piccadilly and head up Old Bond Street for Stafford Street and Shelley's.
