Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Wine Office Court, EC4 - one of London's most celebrated taverns, so
it also tends to be a bit of a tourist hot-spot. An archetypal 17th century chop-house, small cosy
rooms, black settles, low ceilings, sawdust-covered floors, creaking stairs and open fires. Famous
old boys include Charles Dickens and Dr. Johnson.
A great little pub except for when one of your mates refuses to buy gin and tonic..."I'm not buying bloody gin and tonic, the tonics got no alcohol in it!" A tonic fight ensues (predictably).
Either catch a bus towards Trafalgar Square or enjoy the walk along the rest of Fleet Street, past the Law Courts and along the Strand.
